Limiting your produce picks to the fruits and vegetables that are in season can help ensure you’re getting the best quality. Sure, it won’t be easy to say goodbye to all of those delicious berries, but the time has come to switch over to the fresh, fall crops. Here are a few of our favorites:

Apples
Any excuse to go to an orchard is a good excuse, right? Now just try to pick between the 7,500 different varieties! Apples are packed with antioxidants, which protect your immune system, and pectin fiber, which promotes regularity.

Pears
If you’re a baker, you’re likely already a big fan of pears. The two most common varieties, Bosc and Bartlett, are delicious on their own or baked into pies, tarts and more. Pears provide soluble fiber, which may help lower “bad” cholesterol.

Pomegranate
Pomegranates are loaded with antioxidants, giving them potent anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation is the root cause of many different diseases and even gets the blame for early signs of aging.

Squash
Squash is a great source of vitamin C, magnesium, fiber, potassium, folate, vitamin B6, vitamin K, omega-3 fatty acids and protein. Try roasting your favorite variety with olive oil, salt and pepper.

Pumpkin
We know, Halloween is long gone. But that doesn’t mean pumpkin is any less beneficial. The meat of pumpkin is one of the best sources of alpha- and beta-carotene, which promotes healthy vision. Brussels Sprouts

Cabbage
Like Brussels sprouts, cabbage is a cruciferous vegetable, which contains cancer-fighting glucosinolates. Try making a slaw with cabbage, carrots, onion, olive oil and apple cider vinegar.

Beets
While you’re likely most familiar with the deep red color of beets, they also come in gold, white and even multi colors! We like them pickled or roasted, especially atop a salad. No matter which way you enjoy them, you’ll be getting a healthy dose of betaine, which may help prevent heart and liver disease.
